The major objective of the development of this new pelletizing-type was to use air as cooling- and transport-medium for granules to eliminate the effort of drying and simultaneously benefit from the advantages of ECON’s unique technology of thermal insulation.

Due to the thermal insulation, the die plate stays thermally completely separated from the pelletizing head. This thermal insulation allows a uniformity of temperature through the melt channels  and provides a cool surface temperature on the die plate.

Thus results in equably cutting and the evacuation of granulate from the “cool” die plate without forming agglomerates or pellet-chains.

Since more than one year, production at one of ECON’s customers successfully shows unimagined possibilities using the new air pelletizing system. The granulation of different compounds (e.g. PP + wood, PS + wood, PP + paper fiber remnants, PP + wood + CaCO3) is possible without problems. Depending on formulation and filler material, outputs up to 400 kg/h can be realized. Injection molding as well as extrusion qualities can be processed.

The air pelletizer’s modular system concept (functional modules) allows a combination with the ECON underwater pelletizing system. Based on the pelletizing unit, the air pelletizing system can be easily transformed into an underwater pelletizing system by changing some few components (process water and drying system, piping). Thus, a very flexible pelletizing system for different application areas is provided by ECON. Depending on product, output or formulation, either water or air can be used as carrier medium. Quick changeover times increase the flexibility and guarantee high plant availability in order to process a big range of different customer requests.
